Attracting Technology Investors/Presenting at an FSI Showcase Event, Monday, June 18, 2012

Where: Newark SBTDC, New Castle County Center, Univ of Delaware, Newark
When: Monday, June 18, 2012 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Topic: Technology
ATTENTION FIRST-TIME CEOs, TECH VENTURE FOUNDERS, AND MANAGEMENT TEAMS:

The DSBTDC offers this seminar in collaboration with First State Innovation (FSI). The program is targeted toward first time technology company founders and CEOs, and is mandatory for those who wish to present at an upcoming FSI Showcase Event.

This seminar not only helps entrepreneurs develop their pitch, but more importantly, describes the importance of bootstrapping their business, recruiting mentors, and finding strategic partners. Doing these things increases the chances that a company can attract investor interest.

FSI has partnered with the DSBTDC, recommending this seminar as the first step in applying to present
at an FSI Showcase Event. Full management teams (up to 4) are welcome to attend. The seminar fee of $199 will be waived if you are from Delaware and attending for this purpose.

Following the seminar, DSBTDC and FSI advisors are available to counsel attendees in preparing an application to present at one of FSI's quarterly Showcases with two documents: a one sheet description of their business opportunity and a completed pitch deck.
Co-Sponsor: This program is sponsored jointly by the University of Delaware's Office of Economic Innovation & Partnerships, the Delaware SBTDC, and Iterate Ventures. Special thanks to our marketing partners for this event: DEDO, DelawareBio, and First State Innovation.
There are three parts to this seminar:

I. TECHNOLOGY VALIDATION STAGE: Does the technology work?
Part one of the seminar will cover IP basics and valuation; definition and examples of "disruptive" technology; importance of strategic partners; and how to attract tech investors.

II. BUSINESS VALIDATION STAGE: Is it operational in its first market?
Discussions in this segment will be on cofounders and partners; lean start-ups; how to think about markets, technology, and products; knowing your market trends; value proposition development; business model innovation; competitive landscape; strategic partnerships; and mentors vs. angels vs. VCs.

III. SCALING THE BUSINESS STAGE: Sales Growth? Hiring? Execution?
The third part of this seminar covers the value of a business plan; recruiting the best hires for a start-up; operational metrics; reducing the complexity of sales processes; attracting investors; regional differences; and how to know when it's time to raise money.

Testimonials about this program:
"As an entrepreneur and first time CEO, I found the information to be invaluable"--Suzanne Martinelli, CEO, Bombshell Beauty

"The SBTDC seminar was time well spent...great interaction...information was useful and interesting. I would definitely recommend this for any business owner seeking to grow their business."--Matt Bader, CEO, Exam Master

"The session was great and it offered a lot...the interaction from the participants was very helpful. Great job!"--ET Jaxxon, CEO, PBTV Audio

"Your seminar made it very clear to me what our company needs to accomplish after our launch next week."--Steven Kramer, CEO, Lorikeet Learning

The $199 fee will be waived if participants are from a Delaware company seeking to present at an FSI showcase event.
Fee: Free
Link

Turn Prospects into Customers - Increase your Sales by Discovering What Your Customer Really Wants, Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Where: Newark SBTDC, New Castle County Center, Univ of Delaware, Newark
When: Tuesday, June 19, 2012 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Topic: Marketing/Sales
Asking great sales questions is the simplest and fastest way to close the sale. Questions help you find out what kinds of problems your customers and prospects are having, what their needs are, and how much they're willing to pay. But you can't always ask a few questions and expect to get a sale - you have to ask the right questions. Simply knowing which questions to ask can impact whether you win or lose an opportunity. In this workshop you'll learn how to frame your questions to up-sell and cross-sell additional products and services, build stronger customer relationships, handle objections with ease, sell value and close more business.
Speaker: Paul Cherry
